How light sensitivity during migraine Attacks against the blind

BIDMC researchers found that even blind people who suffer from migraines experience sensitivity to light during an attack.
We suspect that a group of newly discovered retinal cells that contain melanopsin photoreceptor (which help control biological functions such as sleep and wakefulness) are critically involved in this process. So they thought that the signals are transmitted from the retina via the optic nerve were somehow causing worsening pain.

To test this theory studied 20 blind people. One half was totally blind due to retinal eye diseases such as cancer or glaucoma. These people were unable to see or perceive images lazy therefore could not maintain a normal cycle of sleep-wake. Individuals in the second group were officially blind from retinal degenerative diseases such as retinitis pigments.

Although they were unable to see images could detect the presence of light and maintain a normal cycle of sleep-wake. "While the first group of patients experienced no worsening of their migraine when exposed to light, the second group of patients described pain that was intensified when exposed to light, particularly the blue wavelengths gray "explains Dr. Rami Burstein, who led the study.
